OpenOSX MapServer

"OpenOSX MapServer" now for the first time, is a complete stand-alone application that includes two ready-to-use sample interactive maps with layers. It is based on Apache 2.2.8, PHP 5.2.26 and MapServer 5.0.3 and is available native for both Intel and PowerPC Macintoshes.

We include both the PHP and CGI version of MapServer and demo PHP and CGI map applications, backed with limited getting-started support.

We built MapServer with support for GDAL, PostGIS, OGR, and Geos (Geometry Engine - Open Source) support so OpenOSX MapServer is capable of directly publishing most geo-spatial files directly (no importing required). It can serve ESRI® vector and raster shape (.shp) files and GRASS "Locations" on the fly for example. We have added a ka-map demo that extends MapServer to utilize AJAX technology enabling many features including continous panning. Google Maps uses AJAX technology to draw and zoom quickly, smooth and fast panning, and to extend display of a wide variety of data-sources. AJAX stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. We also developed and include a demo map using ka-map directly connected to a PostGIS PostgreSQL database that is the highway network for the entire state of California with automatic labeling that was derrived from the US Census Tiger data.

Pictured below are two included iteractive, editable demos:

As an added bonus, in addition to the amazing power of MapServer, OpenOSX MapServer brings you Apache HTTP Server version 2.2.8 configured with PHP 5.2.26 - both of which are packed with many more features and are ready-to-use without any configuration.

OpenOSX MapServer is controlled through the built-in "Web Sharing" Mac OS X System Preference and does not conflict with the standard Mac OS X Apache configuration. Of course, you may take advantage of this power and use our OpenOSX MapServer application as your complete web server - in fact it is based on our extremely powerful OpenWeb application.

Combine the power of GIS with MapServer to publish your GIS data interactively today! Publishing maps on the Internet produced with GRASS or dozens of popular GIS file formats has never been simpler or more straightforward.
