Installing
Windows 95 etc. for WinTel Tutorial
This
tutorial will guide you through booting FreeDOS with CD-ROM support to
accomplish the following:
1.
Download our FreeDOS.img.sit (448KB) boot
floppy image. This is a FreeDOS boot disk configured with a CD-ROM driver
and a CD-ROM driver installer. For the tutorial, please place the disk
image in your Home folder. This can be accomplished by dragging the downloaded
file to the "Home" icon on the top menu bar of a Finder window.
This disk image can be used to install Windows 95, DOS or other operating
systems. Windows 98 may require a real Windows 98 boot disk to install
Windows 98.
2.
Create a WinTel Hard Disk image: A hard disk image
is a virtual windows hard disk that we will need to install Windows or
other operating systems on.
3.
Boot FreeDOS: Startup the Bochs emulator using the
FreeDos.img file.
4.
Run FDISK on the newly created WinTel Hard Disk image:
This is required to partition the newly created hard disk image.
5.
Run FORMAT on our new Hard Disk image: We must format
our disk image before we can use it.
6.
Install Windows (or other OS): Install an operating
system on to our disk image.
7.
Install the CD-ROM driver on our C: Drive: Install
the CD-ROM drivers to our new hard disk.
8.
Boot off the new C: Drive: Start using your new operating
system.
